Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced on Friday that U.S. President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, arrived in Russia that same day.

He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin will discuss with Witkoff various aspects of a settlement in Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters, Peskov said: “The discussion will continue on the different aspects of the Ukrainian settlement. There are many facets to it, and the foundations of the issue are extremely complex,” according to Russia’s Sputnik news agency.

The American news outlet Axios had previously reported, citing informed sources and data from FlightRadar, that “U.S. President Donald Trump’s diplomatic envoy, Steve Witkoff, headed to Russia and is expected to meet President Vladimir Putin on Friday.”

The site noted that this could be the third meeting between Putin and Witkoff, as Trump pushes for a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

Last month, during a lengthy phone call, President Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, agreed on an immediate 30-day ceasefire targeting all airstrikes on energy infrastructure sites and facilities in Ukraine. However, the Russian leader refrained from supporting a broader 30-day ceasefire, which the U.S. administration has been pushing for.

For its part, Ukraine agreed to halt attacks on energy infrastructure sites.

Despite the mutual agreement, both sides have continued to target each other’s energy infrastructure on opposing territories.
